Bituminous emulsions

Bituminous emulsions have been key to the development of cold technology for roads, since they can be used as a binder for lower-than-usual temperatures (and even ambient temperature).

Essential to the development of cold-mix technology for road construction

Bituminous emulsions are colloidal dispersions of bitumen globules in an aqueous phase, composed of water and one or more anionic or cationic emulsifying agents, whose mission is to enable the dispersion of the bitumen, ensure the stability of the emulsion and guarantee adherence with aggregates at ambient temperature.

At Repsol we produce all types of emulsions: cationic and anionic, rapid, medium, and slow-setting and over-stabilized emulsions, that cover all the spheres of use of these materials.

Long Life bituminous emulsions

At times it is not possible to guarantee the stability of bituminous emulsions (containers/tanks used, transportation time, weather conditions, etc.), which reduces their useful life. In order to avoid this drawback, Repsol has created LONG LIFE bituminous emulsions which, due to their high-stability conditions, are suitable for their transportation and storage.

In order to develop this range of emulsions, Repsol has carried out a detailed laboratory study on an industrial scale, with the aim of obtaining a highly stable product over time, respecting the usual work procedures and methods during manufacturing processes in factories.
